The news of the Russian meteorite and the large numbers of people hurt – hopefully none too seriously – just emphasises how our view of a stable and fixed world is just wrong. Quite what would have happened with this if the meteorite had fallen during the cold war is another worry. With this in 2013 and Tunguska in 1908 we may have luckily dodged that bullet.
And this also emphasises the need to keep watching the skies – something the proposed LSST will be very good at.
